Deal Breaker is a two-player TTRPG that sparks conversation between a deal breaker and the devil. Our initial idea was to create a game based on relationships, with character actions being dependent upon their relationship status with other players. We liked the conversational gameplay, but felt the concept lacked a driven narrative. From there, we pivoted to a game with a dynamic of the cursed vs. the cursor, which eventually transformed into the devil vs. dealbreaker.
The gameplay is broken into a setup phase, followed by stages one through three. During each stage, the devil and dealbreaker play a card game as they develop their personalities and motives. The goal of the deal breaker is to correctly guess which cards the devil took during setup by rolling to reveal cards and information. However, the devil can take and destroy cards as well. By the end of the game, the devil's motives will be revealed, and the deal breaker will discover how the deal was broken.
